A Poem for WT Gatherings & 75th Year

A Tribute to the Modern Black Community

Paula and Dwain have written a poem which is published hereby. It is entitled Our Windrush Thanksgiving Gatherings, and it is intended to mark the 75th anniversary of the modern Black community and for reciting in any of the annual Windrush Day Thanksgiving Gatherings which shall be hosted all across the UK.

Our Windrush Thanksgiving Gatherings

We gather in a distant land with friends and family,

To celebrate and educate and thank the Almighty

We gather, we gather with courage and in faith,

To share our tales of enterprise, resilience and growth

We gather with our children, to tell them who we are,

We gather for their futures, to shape their rising stars

We gather, we gather with courage and in faith,

To share our tales of enterprise, resilience and growth

We gather together in strength and enterprise

We gather together as still we rise and rise.

We gather, we gather with courage and in faith,

To share our tales of enterprise, resilience and growth.

This poem is a tribute to the Caribbean migrants and their descendants who after 75 years are regarded by some as a Windrush nation, and by others as one of the UK’s home nations.

The authors would encourage everyone who intends to take part in a WDT Gathering to share this poem with everyone in their Gatherings and networks.
