The 2026 Recognition Awards Dinner: on Sat, 24 October

This year’s Recognition Awards dinner shall be hosted at the elegant Park Plaza Victoria hotel in Westminster. This is the first year in the Sir Geoff Palmer era; and the Awards are designed to do justice to our erstwhile patron and genius who invented the Barley Abrasion Process that is in use in the brewing and distilling sector across the world.

Guests will gather at the hotel and network to the Ralph Lewars jazz quartet. The evening shall be co-hosted by the BBC presenter, Merisha Stevenson, and the Society’s cofounder, Professor Donald Palmer.

As is the Society’s norm, guests shall again enjoy the singing of the Windrush Nation anthem at the start of the dining phase of the evening.

Guests will also be hearing from some impressive speakers such as Sir Kenneth Olisa, the most recent Lord Lieutenant of Greater London and a patron of the Society; and Johnoi Josephs, a founder of Black Men Teach.

In addition guests shall hear about the exemplary work being done to bring relief from hurricane Melissa to the people of Jamaica. Both Dr Nelda Frater, President of Independent Medical Faculty, and Angela Clarke, CEO of RAFFA International Development Agency, will be appraising us of the work of their groups.

The Society shall be honouring and celebrating Sir Geoff Palmer by presenting this year’s winner of the Award (a branded crystal decanter) which bears his name.

This year the selection panel considered 5 extraordinary nominees from the Windrush nation (aka the Black community) who were put forward for consideration by the Society’s patrons.

In addition several firms and volunteer role models will once again be recognised for their unstinting support of the Society’s inspirational events for young people in urban centres across the UK.
