Windrush Day Thanksgiving Gatherings Preamble
The Windrush Day Thanksgiving Gatherings (WDTG) Preamble is entitled Cultural Pride and Agency.
It was written by Dr Dwain Neil OBE to help the community to remember the foundations of the Windrush experience. The preamble states:
1) Without Sam King MBE and Arthur Torrington CBE there would be no Windrush Foundation.
2) Without Patrick Vernon OBE there would be no Windrush Day.
3) Without Reach Society there would be no Windrush Day Thanksgiving Gatherings (from 22 June to the Sunday thereafter).
4) Without Life Radio UK and Reach Society there would be no Windrush Nation Heritage.
5) Without Enfield Caribbean Association there would be no Windrush Voices book (highlighting 20 narratives from the Windrush Generation) or Windrush Wonders (an illustrated book for children).
6) Without RAFFA-and its collaboration with COGOP and other Black Majority Led churches – there would be no advancement of the WDT Gatherings such as: Hope is Contagious, Illumate Windrush Special, and other intergenerational projects – across the faith community in the UK.
7) We are the Windrush Nation, we are Cultural Pride and Agency.
It is hoped that groups actively supporting and promoting the Windrush journey will craft their own sentences, and if shared with the Society, they too could be added to the foregoing preamble
