CANDI’s 4th Employability Day, January’17
Emeritus Professor Sir Geoff Palmer hosted the first series of talks entitled: “Meet a famous scientist,” at Reach Society’s 4th Employability Day on Friday, 27 January, at City and Islington College.
Students were surprised and delighted to discover the story of a local boy who went on to become a distinguished scientist and professor at Heriot-Watt University; and who transformed the UK’s brewing industry with his invention of the Barley Abrasion Process.
In addition, more than 440 students, aged 16 plus, had an interactive day speaking with slightly fewer than 18 employers such as Arsenal FC, British Interplanetary Society, KPMG, High Speed 2, Transport for London, Royal Air Force, NHS, Thames Water and Turner Lovell. Students also received hints and tips from a set of 8 themed workshops led by a team of 12 trained role models from Reach Society.
Daniel Norris, deputy director, Centre for Applied Science, CANDI, thanked the Society for delivering yet another impactful event for their students.
